Derek Chauvin is found guilty of second and third degree murder, and second degree manslaughter; he faces up to 75 years in prison
Jurors in the trial of Derek Chauvin have reached a verdict finding Chauvin guilty in the murder of George Floyd. The Jury deliberated for less than a day, and weighed the testimony of 45 witnesses in a three weeks long trial before reaching their verdict.
He could face a total of 75 years in prison. 40 years for the second-degree murder conviction. 25 years for the third-degree murder conviction, and 10 years for the second-degree manslaughter conviction
The other three officers involved in Floyd’s arrest — Tou Thao, Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng — are scheduled to stand trial together in August. They face charges of aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter and second degree murder.
